Mr. James' Queer Cosmic Folk Art invites viewers into a vibrant worlds where the Billies—identical yet distinct characters—navigate life’s eternal questions through the innocence of their comic strip adventures. These playful explorations into identity and existence unfold in a universe that blends the naive honesty of folk art with the vibrant impact of pop art, creating a unique genre that resonates with the joys and curiosities of childhood while tackling universal truths. His work celebrates the act of questioning and discovery, encouraging viewers to find delight and a deeper connection in the exploration of ‘simple ideas with massive connotations.’
BIO
Mr. James is a Los Angeles-based multimedia artist and cosmic raconteur. His vivid stories emerge from unanswered childhood questions which he transforms through painting, video, felt, and fashion into primary color-soaked, mytho-psychological pop fairy tales. Mr. James' focus on character as brand draws inspiration from pop and folk culture, as well as his time spent working in fashion and apparel in NYC. He considers his work a homage to life in transformation.
